The tradition of balls is deeply rooted in the Austrian History.
Between January and February, when it is "Fasching",
the Austrian Carnival, balls are held nearly every weekend all
over town.

The most famous, expensive and glamorous is the Viennese Opernball,
which has been located in the Vienna
State Opera since 1877.
Because of it's long-lasting tradition, it's exclusive ambient
and its esthetical opening ceremony, the Opernball has been
a draw to the international high society ever since.
