The Viennese Conservatory is an internationally
acclaimed institute of musical education. Although classified
as a very traditional school, it is very nnovative.
Up to 500 concerts per year attract music
lovers from all over the world. However, the 'Musikverein' is
popular with the locals, too. It is a Viennese institution and
a vital node of the city's social life.
The Vienna State Opera was one of the first
buildings on the famous Ringstraße, built between 1861
and 1869 in neo-romantic style. The State Opera offers room
for 2276 spectators and its stage is one of the largest in Europe.
'Volksoper' is a major opera house, second
only to Vienna State Opera. Various 18ths, 19ths and 20ths century
operas are staged as well as light operas, popular operettas,
musicals and dance events.
With internationally acclaimed festivals
like 'Gehörgänge', 'Resonanzen' or 'Wien Modern' and
over 700 performances per year, the Wiener Konzerthaus is one
of the main addresses in Vienna's musical calendar.
