1. What types of accommodation
and meals are available?
You have a choice of host families, apartments, ActiLingua Residence
and hotel accommodation the whole year round. Student residences
are available in summer.
At the ActiLingua Residence, in host families and in school residences
it is possible to book breakfast, half board or self catering (cooking
facilities). Our apartments are equipped with a kitchen in which
you will find the most important utensils and crockery.

2. What is the difference
between ActiLingua Residence, student residence and student apartment?
ActiLingua Residence:
Available year-round. Single or twin room in an apartment (60-75m²)
with Sat TV, radio, free WLAN/WI-FI. 2-5 students share kitchen,
toilet and bathroom. Rooms are cleaned twice weekly. The apartments
are especially comfortable in a tastefully renovated art-deco building
("Jugendstil") typical for Vienna. The school and the
city centre are within easy distance and can be reached within 10
minutes by public transport. Quiet location, Gasometer Shopping
center nearby. Find
out more!
Student residence:
Available in July and August. You have your own room (single or
shared room) in a favourably located student residence with rapid
access to the city centre. Most rooms feature their own shower,
toilet and telephone. You can choose between breakfast and half-board.
There's a kitchen where your may use the hotplates and refrigerator
free of charge - students must provide their own crockery and utensils.
Student apartment: Available
year-round. We recommend this type of accommodation if you value
your independence. You are accommodated in a well-maintained flat,
often shared with other ActiLingua students, in single or shared
rooms with shared bathroom and kitchen. You are responsible for
your own meals; the flat contains all usual kitchen utensils and
crockery. Most flats are also equipped with their own washing machine
and TV.
In a student apartment you will meet other students from all over
the world.

booked, we will immediately contact you and try to work out a solution
which meets your requirements.

room mean?
You share a room with another ActiLingua student who has come to Vienna
to learn German. We make every effort to place students of the same
age and different nationality together who do not share their mother
tongue. Of course, you always share a room with a student of the same
sex.

an ActiLingua course, then please let us know when you register. We

11. Is it possible to
organize accommodation for people who are accompanying students
and not taking part in the courses?
Our ActiLingua Residence also serves hotel guests who do not take
part in one of our German courses. We are happy to tell you more
about our prices. More information!
Alternatively, we recommend that you stay at a hotel or a guesthouse
during your German course. Due to the limited number of rooms we
are only able to offer accommodation to course participants.
Former ActiLingua students have been very satisfied with a 3 star
hotel ranging from EUR 40 - 70 and a 4 star hotel ranging from EUR
80 - 110 per night. We are happy to organise your stay in either.
If you prefer to hunt for your accommodation yourself, please contact
the Vienna Tourist Board for enquiries (Tel.: 43 1 211140, Fax:

machine?
ActiLingua Residence: A laundrette service is offered at
the residence.A public laundrette is available nearby too. Most
host families and some student apartments feature
washing facilites at cost price. Most student residences
feature laundrettes. However, as any other metropolis there is a

occasion for tuning in on local talk.

our course students. An average of one to four, and a maximum of eight,
students are accommodated in any one apartment.

pots and pans?
The apartments in our ActiLingua Residence feature a fully

Kitchens in our student apartments are fully equipped, too.
If you stay with a host family you can - after talking to
your hosts - use the familie's kitchen.
Student residences feature a kitchen. It is possible that
students need to bring their own crockery and utensils.

19. How are host families
selected?
We make every effort to ensure that your stay is as pleasant as possible.
Accommodation standards are regularly checked by us. We also ask all
our students for feedback after their stay. Our landlords are selected
with the following criteria in mind:
- Closeness to the school (average of 10-20 minutes, max. 40 minutes)
by public transport;
- Size, furnishings and fittings in the flat, bathroom facilities
and student's room;
- Access to the family's communal areas;
- Weekly cleaning of the flat and check that everything is OK;
- If breakfast or half board is offered, choice of food at breakfast
and a three-course hot lunch or dinner;
- Opportunity to get to know family members and any other tenants.

20. Do the host families
have children?
Some of our host families are young and childless, some have children
who attend school and some are older couples whose children are already
grown up and live elsewhere.

21. It is difficult
to get a place with a host family. Why?
We offer about 40 places with host families throughout the year and
are currently increasing the number. Some host families only accept
students that book accommodation and board, others prefer female or
younger students. We aim at accommodating the wishes of host families
and students. It can happen that we do not find a suitable host family
for the student due to incompatible preferences. In this case we always
offer an alternative, i.e. a student apartment or a residence. That
is why we ask our clients to tell us in the registration form which
alternative they are willing to accept.
