1. Can I participate
in the German and Music programme the whole year round?
Assuming existing German skills, you may start the programme any Monday.
Complete beginners have a starting date every four weeks.
No music teaching on public
Holidays and Holidays of the Conservatorium. Lessons cannot be
subsequently made up.
2. Can I also participate
in this programme if my German is low level?
You can take music lessons with very little knowledge of German. But
you must have completed at least "Elementary 2" to attend theory lessons
at the Conservatorium.
3. Is the certificate
issued by the Conservatorium recognized in my country?
Certificates issued by the Conservatorium are recognized world wide
as it enjoys official status.
4. What kind of education
do teachers at the Conservatorium have?
Teachers have a very good pedagogical training and are very well qualified
at their field.
5. How and when can I
take part in a rehearsal of the orchestra and/or chamber ensemble?
In order to take part in rehearsals of the orchestra or chamber ensemble,
you should master your instrument very well and start your program
at the beginning of September. You can take part in a rehearsal of
the orchestra or chamber ensemble directly when you arrive in Vienna.
The director of the conservatory decides if your command of the instrument
is sufficient to take part in the rehearsal on a regular basis.
6. Which are the requirements
to attend your German and music programme?
The programme is specially focussed on people fond of music, who already
master one instrument or devote themselves to singing.
7. I play a certain instrument/I
am a singer. Does the Conservatory offer suitable tuition for me?
If you would like to use your stay in Vienna to work on your linguistic
as well as your musical skills, we can recommend the ActiLingua course
German and Music without
qualification - both to lay music enthusiasts as well as to professionals
with advanced musical training. The Conservatory offers highly qualified
tuition for all common musical instruments as well as voice training.
You will learn the name of your teacher on the first day at the Conservatory.
8. Do I have to be a
professional musician in order to register for "German and
Music"?
No, anybody interested in music (playing an instrument or devoted
to singing) is welcome to profit from the high quality practical and
theoretical lessons at the Vienna Conservatorium. In order to take
part in rehearsals of the orchestra or chamber ensemble, you should
master your instrument very well and start your programme at the beginning
of September. You can take part in a rehearsal of the orchestra or
chamber ensemble directly when you arrive in Vienna. The director
of the conservatory decides if your command of the instrument is sufficient

9. Where and when can
I practise privately?
The Vienna Conservatorium offers facilities for practise at approx.
EUR 2/hour. Please, enquire directly at the Conservatorium.
10. Can I rent / borrow
an instrument?
It is not generally possible to rent a musical instrument for the
duration of your stay. You can always contact a local store and negotiate
an individual deal. However, if it is possible we recommend that you
bring your own instrument.
11. Where does the music
instruction take place?
Music instruction takes place at the “Vienna Conservatorium”
which is about 20 minutes from ActiLingua Academy by underground.
About 600 students from all over the world study music at the institute.
Instruction for music students and professionals and lessons for enthusiastic
amateurs are available.
