1. What do I have to submit for admission at University?

For University admission you will require the following documents.

2. How do I get my visa or my residence permit?

The majority of our students have little trouble getting a visa for their stay in Austria. EU citizens and citizens of Island, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland do not need a visa at all. Citizens of some countries need to apply for a visa for stays longer than three months. Citizens of certain countries (esp. Turkey, Russia and the CIS-states) may find it difficult to get a visa for stays longer than 3 months. In this case, we recommend that you initially come to Austria for 3 months, return to your country and then come back for a second study period.
For detailed information see our Visa information page.

3. What happens if I do not get a visa? Will you reimburse the down payment or the total amount already paid?

We will of course reimburse the amount already paid, except for an administration fee of EUR 198. (Please send us a written confirmation of refusal from the embassy.)

4. Can you help me pick the right subject?

The ActiLingua University Preparation course consists of German tuition, examination course and tutorials with an ActiLingua Placement Advisor, who will help you with the registration at the university. (You can only register for the fields of study, for which your are registered in your country. Please read our information on admission and proof of university place in homeland).
Before registering for the ActiLingua University Preparation course, you can find general information on studying in Vienna and all details on your German course on our website and on our information sheet "Preparation for University Studies", which we will be happy to post to you. As soon as we have received your registration form, we will be pleased to suggest the ideal University and subject(s) to meet your personal wishes and requirements.

5. How much are the study fees?

See pricelist!

6. Can I go to University while my German course lasts?

If you participate in the University Preparation course, you must first attend the ActiLingua German course for 12-36 or more weeks. After completion of the German course, you may begin your studies at the University.

7. When do I have to pay my German course?

At the time of your application, you will have to pay a deposit of EUR 198, which will be deducted from the total amount. If you decide to take out the optional travel cancellation insurance (4 % of the total amount), this will also have to be paid at the time of application. The remaining amount for the course is due at least 30 days prior to the beginning of the course.

8. Which kind of accommodation is included in the price?

The price quoted includes your accommodation during your German course with the choice of a host family, student apartment or a student residence.

9. Will you arrange an accommodation for me once I finish my German course?

We will be glad to provide you with the contact details of the university accommodation department. Your Actilingua University Placement Advisor will be happy to help you with this. Afterwards, you can book your desired accommodation independently.

10. How much does the accommodation cost during my studies at the University?

The price may vary depending on the type of accommodation. Places at a student dormitory are available from EUR 218,- per month, private apartments range from EUR 180,- to 350,- per month if you rent accommodation for at least one year of studies.

11. What is included in the travel insurance package (health and accident insurance)? Which are the conditions for a travel cancellation insurance?

More Information: Insurance.

12. Is my local high school diploma recognized by Austrian universities?

Your local high school diploma needs to be translated and authenticated in order for it to be recognized by Austrian universities. In addition, you will need to prove your German proficiency (i.e. with OSD Mittelstufe diploma) and a university place in your homeland for the duration of your studies in Austria.

13. What does 'proof of a university place in my homeland' mean?

In order to be accepted at an Austrian university you need to prove that you have been accepted at a local university in your country and have a university place for the duration of your studies in Austria and in the same field of studies. This is a measure to take different educational systems into account without requiring you to take entrance exams at the Austrian university.
