'Am Himmel' - Trees 'on the sky'
| In 1997, a commitee devoted to preserving wood as natural
habitat had the idea to plant a circle of symbolic trees in Grinzing,
one of Vienna’s outer districts. The location became known as „Am
Himmel“ and puts the woods most visible elements, the trees, into
focus. Humans have always related to trees, hence the many myths. Our walk takes us to a natural sight at the city’s border, where it blends into popular recreation area Vienna Woods. This immense green belt is also a wildlife sanctuary with surprising diversity. After visiting ‘”Am Himmel” and the symbolic circle of trees we will continue our walk through the woods until we reach a look-out called “Jubiläumswarte”. If the weather is nice we will be able to enjoy a perfect view as far as mount Schneeberg, Lower Austria highest mountain. |
