Studentensteckbrief - Interview mit AcitLingua Student Ferdinand

Where are you from, Ferdinand?
I’m from Slovakia.

How long have you been studying German?
In school, I only had three years of German, and then I took an evening course for three years. Now I’ve been with ActiLingua for four months.

Why did you decide to study at ActiLingua?
I had read a lot about ActiLingua online. I found everything I needed to know. In addition, I saw many recommendations from former students, which convinced me to book a course.

What do you particularly like about ActiLingua?
I like the complete package of accommodation, organisation and numerous leisure activities that is offered. As well as the well trained teachers.

Why did you decide on studying in Vienna?
Vienna is a beautiful city, with historic, as well as modern architecture. Transport connections are great.

What do you like most about Vienna?
There is always something to do in Vienna, and you never get bored. Everyone can find something to his or her liking.

What is your favourite place in Vienna?
Danube Island, Hofburg Palace and St. Stephen’s Square

What is an absolute “must see” in Vienna?
A definite “must see” is the city’s historic centre. Especially, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the opera, Hofburg Palace and the national library. You can study at the library and then go shopping on Mariahilfer Strasse or Kärntner Strasse. Furthermore, there are many museums to visit, like the museum of art history or the museum of natural history. My favourite was the Vienna Technical Museum.

What is an absolute “must eat/drink” in Vienna?
You should definitely try the typical Viennese cuisine like Tafelspitz or Wiener Schnitzel, or something sweet like Sacher cake oder Apple strudel. Have a taste of the different wine or beer brands and obviously Viennese coffee.

What is typically Austrian?
“Schauma mal!” (Let’s wait and see)

What is your favourite German word?
“nichtsdestoweniger” (nevertheless)

How many Schnitzels have you already eaten?
At least 100.

In conclusion, what do you have to say about Vienna?
Vienna combines historical and modern aspects, many sights, shopping and a rich cultural offer. You just have to experience it yourself.
