Professional Development for Teachers of German

ActiLingua Academy Vienna offers specialised professional development programmes for teachers of German as a foreign or second language.

The programme combines methodology, didactics, cultural studies and contemporary teaching approaches in an international learning environment in Vienna.

Designed for educators, teacher trainers and language professionals, the course focuses on practical teaching competence, intercultural exchange and innovative approaches to German language teaching.

ActiLingua Academy is an experienced Erasmus+ course provider and follows the Erasmus+ Quality Standards for mobility projects.

Course Overview

A specialised training programme for non-native teachers of German who would like to further develop their methodological, didactic and intercultural competencies.

  • 25 lessons per week
  • 20 lessons teacher training
  • 5 lessons applied cultural studies and educational activities
  • 1 lesson = 45 minutes
  • Duration: 1 or 2 weeks
  • Level: from B2
  • International groups
  • Approximately 8–12 participants

The programme combines practical teacher training with contemporary approaches to German language teaching.

  • communicative teaching methods
  • grammar and vocabulary instruction
  • authentic classroom materials
  • lesson planning and classroom practice
  • digital media and AI in language teaching
  • CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning)
  • intercultural communication
  • regional and cultural studies
  • reflective teaching practice
  • current developments in DaF/DaZ teaching

Participants exchange experiences and teaching approaches with colleagues from different countries and educational systems.

Vienna as a Learning Environment

An important part of the programme is the integration of language, culture and regional studies.

Structured cultural learning activities may include:

  • guided city walks
  • museum visits
  • literary and historical discussions
  • cultural presentations
  • architecture and regional studies
  • Austrian culture and society

The aim is to integrate authentic cultural experiences into language teaching practice and intercultural learning.

Erasmus+ Funding

ActiLingua Academy Vienna is an experienced Erasmus+ course provider.

Participants from EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey, North Macedonia and Serbia may apply for Erasmus+ funding through their sending institution.
