Host Families

For over 30 years, ActiLingua Academy has been connecting young language students (ages 16–35) from all over the world with host families in Vienna. Many of our former students have such fond memories of their time in Vienna that today, their own children come to us to learn German.

We are looking for households, shared apartments, or individuals in Vienna who have a spare room and would enjoy welcoming international guests for a limited period. Our students typically stay for 2 to 12 weeks while attending a German course at our school. They come from countries such as Italy, Spain, France, Switzerland, Poland, Russia, and Japan, eager to experience life in Vienna up close.

What makes a Great Host Family in Vienna?

We place great importance on ensuring that our language students are accommodated in a German-speaking environment so they can use and improve their language skills in everyday life. For this reason, we only place students in households where German is the main language.

Student placements are arranged in consultation with hosts and based on availability. We make every effort to consider both the preferences of our hosts and the needs of the students.

Host family requirements – Is your home suitable?

• A private room for the student
• Location in Vienna’s districts 1–13 (close to our school in the 3rd district)
• German as the primary language spoken in the household
